Materials:
Clean dry paper clip
Tissue paper
A bowl of water
Pencil with eraser
Instructions
Fill the bowl with water.
Drop the paper clip on the water you will observe that the paper clip sinks.
Tear the tissue paper into half and gently drop it on the surface of water.
Gently drop the paper clip onto the tissue paper the tissue paper should not drown.
Now carefully with the help of pencil’s eraser push the tissue paper
under the water and............ THE PAPER CLIP IS FLOATING
What is happening?
When you put the paper clip on the tissue and remove the tissue the paper clip floats due to SURFACE TENSION. Surface tension is a property of the surface of a liquid that allows it to resist an external force
